Rick van Barneveld joins KiwiRail Network business
Rick van Barneveld started in his new role today as General Manger of KiwiRail Network. KiwiRail Network (ONTRACK) is the infrastructure division of KiwiRail.
KiwiRail Chief Executive Jim Quinn welcomed Rick van Barneveld, saying he would bring wide experience of infrastructure management to the company.
"I'm delighted to welcome Rick to our management team. He brings a wealth of experience in the transport industry going back to his role as District Highways Engineer with the Ministry of Works and Development in the 1980s.
"Since then, he has been Transit's Land Transport Manager, National Highways Manager and Chief Executive. Most recently he has been working on the project to plan, design and construct a 215 kilometre railway in Queensland.
"Rick's background will be of value as we work to cement rail's role within an integrated transport system in New Zealand."
KiwiRail Network is responsible for maintenance and improvements to the rail network, including the major upgrades in Auckland and Wellington and electrification of the Auckland rail system. It also controls the operation of trains on the national network.
