KiwiRail manages the rail infrastructure on behalf of the Crown. That includes 4,000 kilometres of track and 18,000 hectares of land as well as all of the assets on the network.
KiwiRail's Infrastructure team enables our freight and passenger businesses to deliver on customer promises by ensuring a robust network. This is due to the maintenance, renewals and upgrades constantly made to the network.
The Infrastructure team also manages major infrastructure projects including DART (Developing Auckland's Rail Transport Network), WRRP (Wellington Region Rail Programme), North South Junction Upgrade work, bridge replacement programme, and the sleeper replacement programme.
The National Train Control Centre also operates from with the Infrastructure team, responsible for the movement of all rail traffic on the network.
