Media Advisory - Tranz Metro services have resumed
19 August 2013 11:11AM
KiwiRail wishes to advise Tranz Metro passengers that normal train services resumed Saturday morning, following Friday's magnitude 6.6 earthquake.
“All Wellington commuter lines were closed Friday afternoon while track inspections were undertaken to check for any damage to the infrastructure. There were no reports of damage and all Tranz Metro services resumed on Saturday," says KiwiRail's General Manager Passenger, Deborah Hume.
The Wellington Railway Station was closed on Friday for an engineer's inspection. The building has not sustained any structural damage and has been re-opened to the public.
Tranz Metro will continue updating its website regularly at www.tranzmetro.co.nz.
“If anything changes we will notify our customers on the website and via our text messaging system," Ms Hume says.
