South Island earthquakes – Impact on rail services
06 January 2015 9:09AM
KiwiRail staff are currently inspecting rail lines in the South Island following this morning’s earthquakes near Arthur’s Pass and Methven.
Currently lines are closed between Oamaru and Christchurch, Oaro (south of Kaikoura) and Christchurch, along with the Midland and Stillwater lines.
Freight services on those lines have been suspended along with the TranzAlpine and bus replacements are being provided for passengers. The Coastal Pacific is running although this has been delayed by approximately 90 minutes.
Services on the lines will resume once the lines have been inspected and safety clearance has been given.
