Silverstream Bridge Strike Update 2.45pm
09 January 2015 2:02PM
Tranz Metro services between Taita and Upper Hutt stations will resume over the next hour and services will run as follows:
The 2.35pm service from Wellington to Upper Hutt will run as a train for the entire journey
The 3pm service from Upper Hutt to Wellington will run as bus replaced for the entire journey
The first service to depart Upper Hutt as a train for the entirety of the service will be the 3.35pm service.
A normal timetable will then resume.
KiwiRail understands that this incident has caused disruption to customers travelling on the Hutt Line along with motorists following Wednesday’s bridge strike at Silverstream. We appreciate peoples’ patience while we work as quickly as possible to get the line fully reopened.
Our engineers have made excellent progress erecting the interim structural supports and bracing on the bridge and safety clearance has been given for all passenger and freight services to use the line.
Eastern Hutt Road will remain partially closed with only one lane open as work on installing a permanent structure continues and motorists are advised to expect delays and to take alternative routes when possible.
Lane restrictions are expected to stay in place until full repairs have been completed for the safety of motorists and KiwiRail staff and contractors working on-site.
Customers should continue to check the Tranz Metro website for service updates – www.tranzmetro.co.nz.
