Interislander sailing to revised schedule

Interislander’s passenger and commercial freight services are sailing this evening to a revised timetable and expect to be back to normal by midday Saturday. However rail freight is suspended and we expect to start operating within 24 hours.

The disruption to sailings is due to the severe weather that moved across Cook Strait this afternoon and damage to the rail loading ramp at Picton after wind caused the Aratere to move in its berth.

The ramp has been inspected by Port Marlborough engineers and repair work is now underway.

Aratere has returned to Wellington, Kaitaki is also on its return leg, and Arahura is due to berth in Picton before 5.30pm.

We apologise for the delay to services including our rail freight customers who will experience the most significant delays.

We also appreciate that people have had their travel plans disrupted, including being on-board the ships longer than is desirable, but our crews and terminal staff are doing everything they can to ensure that people are as comfortable as possible.

Interislander is contacting affected customers and advising them of revised sailing times to ensure any delays to travel are minimsed.

Text alerts are being sent out and people are advised to text 322, type in ARR (arrival) or DEP (departure) for the latest estimated sailing times.
