Upgrade work to begin at Richard Pearse Drive level crossing

The level crossing on Richard Pearse Drive across the Main South Line in Temuka is to be upgraded this weekend with the installation of specially designed rubber ground panels.

KiwiRail Regional Manager – Southern, Neil Campbell, says that the work will improve the road surface at the crossing. “We now install rubber panels in most of our busier level crossings as they provide a durable and long lasting surface. After the installation of the panels, together with road improvements that the Timaru District Council is doing at the same time, this crossing will be much smoother and quieter especially for the milk tankers and other heavy vehicles. “The smoother, more even surface, will also further enhance safety for motorists and cyclists as well and this is important for both KiwiRail and the local community as well.” Mr Campbell says that the road will be closed to traffic on Saturday 28 to Monday 30 March, while the work is completed but alternative routes will be sign posted. “This work will happen over the weekend to ensure minimal disruption to local residents and businesses and we thank them and the Timaru District Council for their co-operation,” says Mr Campbell.
