KiwiRail works to re-open Johnsonville line after derailment

1 February 2011

KiwiRail staff are working to re-open the Johnsonville Line after it was closed by a derailment at Ngaio Station early this afternoon.

KiwiRail Metro Manager Paul Rolton said re-railing the English Electric Unit would take some time and buses would replace trains for the evening peak.

Fifteen passengers were kept onboard the train till the overhead electricity was turned off, and then allowed to disembark and travel to their destination.

There were no injuries as a result of the derailment.

The cause is being investigated.
