Manukau Rail Link

Work is underway to extend the reach of Auckland's railway network with the creation of Manukau City's new transport hub.

It is the first new rail route to be built in Auckland since the Eastern line in 1930. It is predicted to be one of New Zealand's busiest stations, competing with Newmarket for the second highest number of passengers after Britomart.

The 2km section of new track will link Davies Ave in Manukau City with the Southern railway line at Puhinui. The track will run under Lambie Drive and Plunket Ave and across Hayman Park.

The $50m project is being built for compatibility with the future electrification of the network.

The new track will run alongside the New Zealand Transport Agency's SH20 link with SH1, and will be mostly double-tracked to achieve convenient and frequent services.

Part of the rail link will run inside a 300m trench beginning at Lambie Dr and finishing at Davies Ave. It will be 7m deep at its deepest point and 18m wide at its widest.
