We are continually maintaining the rail network to keep it running smoothly.
Some of this work needs to be done at short notice to fix faults and damage. This work allows freight and passenger services to operate efficiently to support businesses, tourists and commuters across the country 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This work generally involves heavy machinery. It can be noisy, dusty, involve bright lights and take time to complete. We understand that this can disturb people living and working along the rail corridor and work hard to complete it as quickly and quietly as possible.
We do our best to give people living and working along the rail corridor advance warning of our activities. However, when the work is urgent this is always not possible.
