Arahura loses power coming into berth

06 November 2014 10:10AM

The Interislander ferry Arahura has lost power to its propulsion shafts coming into her berth in Wellington.  Her bow thrusters were still operational so the ship had some capacity to manoeuvre.

At 0947 the ship was turning to enter the berth when the incident occurred.  Both the ship’s anchors were deployed immediately on loss of power, and two tugboats are attending the ship and are holding her fast, and will assist the ship into her berth in due course.

The Master is in communication with the 61 passengers on board, and at no time was the safety of the vessel or her passengers compromised.

A further update will be issued before 1130 today.
