MEDIA ADVISORY– Silverstream Bridge Strike Update 5.30pm
07 January 2015 5:05PM
Tranz Metro services between Taita and Upper Hutt stations are being replaced by buses after a truck struck the Silverstream rail bridge until further notice.
KiwiRail engineers have inspected the bridge and repairs need to be undertaken before full services can resume.
A special timetable will run with half hourly services and bus replacements between Upper Hutt and Taita on Thursday January 8 and we expect that normal services will not resume until tomorrow afternoon.
KiwiRail engineers advise that the damaged bridge requires the replacement of a span on one of the lines. Infrastructure staff are working as quickly as possible to have the repair completed and the line fully reopened.
Wairarapa services will run, as one rail line on the bridge is still able to be used. Passengers on these services need to plan for significant delays due to speed restrictions that will be in place.
Passengers are advised to check the Tranz Metro website for service updates – www.tranzmetro.co.nz.
Further updates will be provided as more information is available.
