Wellington Railway Station

Changes at Wellington Railway Station will enable for more frequent and ultimately longer trains, more often.

The work to manage future demand on the network at the station is important as peak period patronage is forecast to keep growing – the last three years it’s increased by 13.6%.

Our activities will see us:

  • Improving Station approaches to increase capacity
  • Renewing traction power overhead line systems

During the 2019 Christmas Block of Line period we built 80 new foundations in the approaches to Wellington Railway Station. This work will see us replacing wooden masts with steel and could only be done when no trains were running and saw us digging holes between three to six meters deep.

More trains will be using the already busy Wellington Railway Station in the future.
