New Director appointed to KiwiRail Board

The appointment of new director Craig Evans to KiwiRail Holdings Ltd will bring strong real world freight experience to the Board table, complementing the range of skills already there, Chair Suzanne Tindal says.

Mr Evans joins the Board on 3 August 2026.

He began his career at Freightways in 1980 before moving onto a 34-year stint with Mainfreight, including as Country Manager – head of Mainfreight in New Zealand - until 2021.

He was Chief Executive of Move Logistics from February 2023 until August 2024 before becoming a director at Hilton Haulage Limited Partnership.

Ms Tindal says Mr Evans’ appointment by the shareholding Ministers reflects the value of that extensive experience in the New Zealand transport sector.

“That experience will help guide KiwiRail in optimising supply chains and bringing a customer-centric view to its operations.”

Ms Tindal says she and her fellow Board members looked forward to working with Mr Evans.

“Strong governance is essential to delivering the improved performance, value for money and sound stewardship of public assets that is expected of the company”.
