KiwiRail has made the decision to close the Wellington rail network tomorrow, Thursday 23 October, due to extreme weather.
This means all services will be cancelled across the Wellington metro lines for the duration of the MetService red weather warning, which is currently forecast from 8am to 6pm. Many other organisations in the Wellington area are planning to close for the day and staff have been advised to work from home.
“We know the closure of the network will be disruptive to commuters, but the safety of our staff and the public is our top priority," says General Manager Wellington Metro Network Andy Lyon.
There will be limited bus replacement services available for essential travel during this time. For information visit the Metlink website.
"We are grateful for everyone's patience as we continue to navigate the extreme weather."
