Te Kupenga Mahi is the Māori network within KiwiRail and Toll NZ.
The group plays a pivotal role working in partnership with KiwiRail and Toll to increase understanding of Te Ao Māori, support with iwi engagement and create stronger connections in the communities in which we work.
Te Kupenga Mahi strives to share Māori cultural, social and economic aspirations with the wider community by consultation in good faith, common sense and with dignity under the concept of true partnership.
The group was initiated by Māori staff in 1989, and formalised in 1990. Its objective is to strengthen whakawhanaungatanga (relationships) among employees and associated partnerships at all levels, through the sharing of knowledge and increasing awareness of cultural, social and economic issues.
Te Roopu Awhina is the committee which co-ordinates the activities of Te Kupenga Mahi, and is made up of representatives from each district. The committee liaises, advises and consults with KiwiRail management to promote positive outcomes for Māori, for KiwiRail and for New Zealand.
