KiwiRail operates two inter-regional passenger train in the North Island – offering a low-emission, congestion free connection between Hamilton and our largest city Auckland, as well as Palmerston North and our capital Wellington.
We look after New Zealand’s rail network, including operating and maintaining 3700 kilometres of track and 6 million sleepers.
After two years of work, the new second track between Trentham and Upper Hutt stations is complete and opened to trains on 15 November 2021.
Our track infrastructure teams work around the clock to maintain the rail track so trains can run safely.
