It’s a balancing act to stay on top of maintenance while keeping a busy metro service running.
Our track teams need train-free access over several days to get major jobs done. Taking trains out of service is a big deal for passengers, so we work with Greater Wellington to schedule projects over weekends and holidays when there are fewer people commuting. We also get work done during off peak times and at night as much as we can.
With some of these big renewal jobs out of the way (like bridge and tunnel repairs), we can prioritise the day-to-day maintenance needed to preserve the overall state of the network.
We are:
"We know disruptions can be frustrating, but every section we renew improves reliability and reduces the likelihood of unplanned outages in the future."
