Hutt Valley Line

We have three substation builds in progress on the Hutt Valley Line. These are crucial to getting more power into the system. See where we are working for updates.

Maymorn Station

As part of preparing the line for the arrival of Greater Wellington’s Tūhono trains in 2029, we will be extending the Maymorn Station platform, creating a passing loop for trains, and putting in a new pedestrian level crossing. We plan to begin construction work at Christmas 2026.

Ava Bridge, Lower Hutt

KiwiRail completed the upgrade work on Ava Rail bridge in January 2026. The Ava walkway needed to be removed because it was supported by aged sleepers that have all been replaced as part of the upgrade.
Hutt City Council and KiwiRail are working together on a walkway replacement. You can see updates on the Hutt City Council website

Blenheim St crossing

Pedestrian gates make Blenheim Street level crossing safer.

This timelapse video shows the intense work involved to construct the new pedestrian underpass at Trentham Station. The train tracks were temporarily removed, a large hole excavated and the concrete core craned in.
