KiwiRail charges for the work we do to plan, co-ordinate and schedule your access to ensure that you and your personnel can enter the corridor safely to carry out your proposed works.

Charges exclude GST, travel and accommodation. Please note travel and accommodation charges apply when protection staff are required to travel to location.
Delivery timeframes commence once all requested documentation is received.
Assessment of charges: Once we have received and verified all requested documentation from you, the permit category will be confirmed. Any charges will be payable on signing the Permit to Enter. Click here for our standard Permit to Enter terms. Payment will be a condition of entry.
Annual Permits may be considered for repeat, minor works at multiple locations on a case by case basis. You will need to meet with a member of the National Permits Team to discuss works programme and management of health and safety risks. The cost of an Annual Permit is $3,250.00 (+GST).
Protection Service Charges
Your Permit to Enter may require an approved rail protection officer(s) to be present during works.
For safety reasons, all protection is booked and managed by KiwiRail.

Cancellation policy
Please note that once you have booked a protection officer with us it means that we have reserved time in our schedule exclusively for you.
If you wish to cancel or postpone safety protection less than five working days before it is scheduled to take place, you will be charged the full cost.
To avoid being charged, you must provide cancellation notice at least 5 working days in advance via email to a KiwiRail representative.
