Regional passenger rail services
Regional passenger rail
KiwiRail operates two regional passenger rail services on behalf of local councils, providing low-emission public transport connections between major centres in the North Island.
We currently operate:
Te Huiaopen_in_new, connecting Hamilton and Auckland.
Capital Connectionopen_in_new, connecting Palmerston North and Wellington.
These services help connect communities, support economic activity and provide an alternative to travelling by road.
Regional passenger rail services are funded by regional councils and central government. KiwiRail operates the services on their behalf. Learn more about passenger rail.
