Dear neighbour,
KiwiRail is carrying out its regular programme of scheduled rail asset renewals
to ensure a safe, reliable and resilient network as Auckland moves into an era
of more frequent train services.
During three weekends in October and November (see dates right), KiwiRail
will renew foundations under small sections of the rail corridor in Paerata. We
will work day and night over these periods to complete this work more
quickly.
The KiwiRail team will return to this location during 27 December to 10
January 2027 and work 24/7 to complete this renewal of our critical rail
infrastructure and associated track works. This stage will include cutting the
tracks, excavating and preparing foundations, replacing assets and tamping
ballast in place.
The four work periods correspond with different sections of the South City Line
in Paerata. No trains will run south of Puhinui Station during 7-8 November and
from 27 December until to 10 January. Rail passengers are encouraged to
check the AT Mobile app or visit the Auckland Transport website to plan their
travel at.govt.nz/journeyplanner
This renewal work will improve the reliability and resilience of the rail network
and allow for the more frequent trains the City Rail Link is enabling.
How this affects you:
Our teams are aware they are working close to neighbouring properties and will do
their best to minimise any disturbance. However, there is likely to be noise and
increased vehicle movements from this activity; we apologise in advance for this.
Our facility in Crown Road, Paerata, which will be used to store and transport
equipment and materials needed for this renewal work. There will be increased
truck movements along Crown Road, work trains and rail vehicles operating. Please
take extra care around the network.
