Drury Rail Stations
Over the next 30 years, an extra 130,000 people are expected to call South Auckland home. To prepare for the future growth, the government has provided funding for three new railway stations between Papakura and Pukekohe.
The new stations are located in Drury Central, Drury West and Paerata. Combined with the completed Papakura to Pukekohe electrification, the three new stations will make travelling by train more accessible and appealing to those living and working in the area.
KiwiRail is working with partner agencies Auckland Transport and Waka Kotahi to create a cohesive transport network in South Auckland. We are building the transport infrastructure ahead of the population growth to reduce traffic congestion, carbon emissions and make it easier to move around.
To help connect with local residential areas, each of the stations will include a bus interchange, as well as walking and cycle paths. Up to 350 car parks will be provided at Drury Railway Station and Paerātā Railway Station and up to 200 car parks at Ngākōroa Railway Station.
As these new stations open to the public, Auckland Transport will implement a new bus network in west Franklin to connect people with the new stations, as well as local schools, jobs and town centres.
The three stations are also being future proofed for a number of elements including space for additional rail tracks, longer platforms for nine car trains.
Naming the stations
The New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB) is the Government agency responsible for naming railway stations. KiwiRail submitted to the NZGB the following names for consideration which were gifted from Mana Whenua.
- (Te) Maketuu Station (Drury Central)
- Ngaakooroa Station (Drury West)
- Paeraataa Station (Paerata)
The NZGB considered the KiwiRail proposal and after considering public feedback confirmed the following names for the stations:
- Drury Railway Station (Drury Central)
- Ngākōroa Railway Station (Drury West)
- Paerātā Railway Station (Paerata)

How this work affects you
Our working hours will be between Monday to Saturday, 6am-7pm. At times, some weekend and night works may be required but we will contact our neighbours in advance.
During working hours, construction noise, vibration and dust is to be expected. They will be monitored to keep them within our consented limits. There will be increased truck movements during construction.
We understand that some of the upcoming works may be disruptive to our neighbours and will work to reduce the impacts where possible.
